The Civic Engagement Initiative at BCB is in touch with a number of organizations and supports willing students in finding interesting volunteer work positions. From helping in refugee camps or teaching English to event assistance or projects with seniors—there are options for everyone.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • Refugee Help North Berlin
    Help out with a variety of tasks, from child care to teaching languages at different refugee shelters around Berlin, in Pankow or Wedding.
  • Serve the City Berlin
    Assist in weekly or monthly Saturday activities in a refugee camp in Mitte; Other social work projects around Berlin
  • The Refugee Academy
    Help out with organisation of events, excursions, classes at the Refugee Academy.
  • Animal Shelter
    Help out the Berlin 'Tierheim' that works for the protection of animals. A variety of tasks offered around Berlin
  • Community Centre "Café Impuls"
    Help out in the café, general assistance during events for children, lectures, concerts; option to take over projects and run events independently. In Pankow (German required)
  • Community Centre "Treff 203"
    Help with events and cooking courses, provide assistance in  DIY projects, help out during lectures and in the café. In Mitte (German required)
  • Café Ohne Grenzen at JUP
    Help setting up Sunday sessions as meeting space for Berlin residents and refugees. Help in the kitchen before and during events. In Pankow, on Sundays, biweekly
  • Café der Begegnungen
    Help out in the preparation for Sunday events for both Berlin residents and refugees. In Pankow, on Sundays, biweekly
  • Clothing Donations
    Help with the arrangement and distribution of clothing donated to refugees in the refugee shelter in Mühlenstraße, Pankow
  • Carl von Ossietzky  Primary School
    Offer ESL classes and after-school activities for primary school children. In Kreuzberg, options available in Prenzlauer Berg 
  • Das Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus
    Tutor children, help with homework assignments (German required). Help in the community centre's café. In Schöneberg
  • Community Centre Stille Straße
    Tutoring in English, providing assistance in English lessons for senior citizens. In Pankow
