Thursday, November 22, 2018 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm EST/GMT-5Bard College Berlin, Seminar Room 5, Platanenstr. 24, Berlin - Pankow
With Karim Goessinger (Cairo Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences)
Liberal arts initiatives are emerging across countries of the global south. Meanwhile, post-colonial theory is more crucial than ever for preserving the tradition of liberal education and mitigating the damage wrought by the neoliberal assault on higher education. What lessons are to be learned from the shapes, colors, and practices that liberal education takes on in post-colonial societies?
Karim Goessinger studied political philosophy and urban governance in the Netherlands, Brazil and France. He has worked with a range of development agencies in Latin America and the Middle East in fields including micro-finance, informal housing and local governance. In addition to his strong interest in social and political theory, Karim-Yassin is concerned with the intersection of post-secondary education and development work. After his graduate studies at Sciences Po Paris, he set out to create the Cairo Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CILAS). He serves as Chairman of CILAS Board of Trustees.
