2015-2025: Berlin Arrival City
Friday, October 31, 2025
BCB Factory Arts Building (Eichenstr. 43, 13156 Berlin)
8:00 pm – 10:00 pm CET/GMT+1
Ten years ago, Bard College Berlin (BCB) started the selection process for the first cohort of displaced or refugee students to come to Germany on full scholarships in the “Program for International Education and Social Change” (PIESC) – inspired by what at the time felt like a “Welcome Culture”, although its cracks were already all too apparent. The program took off with four students in 2016. By now, 85 students from conflict zones have benefited from dedicated scholarships – up to 15% of our student body in recent years.8:00 pm – 10:00 pm CET/GMT+1
How did our alums ten years ago experience arrival, adaptation, and networking in and beyond Berlin? How did their time at BCB shape these experiences? And how does BCB staff remember these beginnings? In this first event of our PIESC 10th Anniversary events series, we celebrate 10 years of PIESC with our graduates and students by letting them take the stage for a round of unique and personal contributions. They will be framed by a brief historical introduction and a panel discussion with BCB staff about their motivations and experiences at the time.
Join us for a story-telling and musical evening with contributions from Bard College Berlin graduates on 10 years of coming to and living in Berlin. There will be soup and drinks.
Featuring: Anas Maghrebi, Ghaithaa Alshaar, Ameenah Sawwan, Sam Zamrik, Sohaib Alzoubi, Hesham Moadamani, Adeeb Hadi
