Conference Support Fund

Bard College Berlin students who have been invited to give a conference paper outside Berlin or Germany may apply for Conference Support to cover the relevant expenses (traveling, accommodation and conference fees).

  • Eligibility

    Eligibility

     
    Support will be granted according to the following criteria:
    • The conference paper must have been selected in a competitive review process.
    • The student must apply for funding from the conference organizers themselves, if such funding is available.
    • The student must be in good academic standing.
    • Leave of absence for conference attendance can be granted.
    • The student has not previously received conference support in the same academic year.
    • Those interested should download and fill out the application form (add proofs). Enclosed abstract of paper and the confirmation from the organizers of the conference needs to be submitted to Associate Dean for approval of eligibility. Potential awards may take into account merit and financial need. Funding will only be reimbursed upon submission of original receipts and up to the maximum of the amount stated on the receipt.

    • official confirmation of acceptance to the conference

The Gillespie Scholarship Fund

The Gillespie Scholarship Fund is designed to help students and recent graduates of the Program for International Education and Social Change at Bard College Berlin achieve their academic and professional goals. It provides funds, on a competitive basis, for PIESC students who need additional financial support in order to be able to attend study abroad or summer programs, travel to conferences and similar events, or carry out research for their Senior Project.

    Funding Purpose, Amount, Duration

    The Gillespie Scholarship Fund is an award for up to USD 2,000. The final amount will depend on actual need. It may be awarded upon application for one of the following purposes:
    • Support for BCB-supported study abroad programs 
    • Support for special academic study opportunities (conferences, summer programs, research travel, etc.)
    • Support for professional development during or immediately after the BCB studies (internships, professional development programs)
    At the end of the sponsored project, award recipients are expected to deliver a report to the Gillespie Scholarship Fund committee about their program, their achievements, and use of the award. 
  • Eligibility

    Eligibility

    Eligible Applicants must meet all the following criteria:
    • Students enrolled at BCB full-time or recent graduates of BCB degree programs (up to 6 months after graduation)
    • Recipients of a scholarship of the Program for International Education and Social Change
    • Demonstrate financial need and demonstrate that they have pursued other sources of funding
    • Provide a description of the program or project for which funds are needed, a motivation for pursuing this program or project and a description of the usage of the award
  • Application Process

    Application Process

    There are two deadlines annually, in March and in September. Please make sure to plan accordingly and apply as soon as possible to receive a decision in time for the start of your program or project. Final decisions will be announced at the latest three weeks after the deadline dates. The funds will be available two months after the deadline dates.

    • Academic Transcript
    • Documents/confirmations for funding purpose (program admission letters, payment requests, proof of additional funding if needed)

    How to apply:
    • Fill out Online application form for Gillespie Fund
    • Upload BCB transcript and supporting documents to coherently present the request. (Study abroad offer, program admission offer, payment requests etc.)
    • Ask the recommendation letter to be emailed to program contact Elena Cheprakova at [email protected]
    After submitting the online application form, you may be contacted regarding additional questions or asked for additional documentation.

    Your application will be reviewed by the Gillespie Scholarship Fund committee and the decision will be communicated to you via email. In case of a positive decision, applicants will receive information about the amount of funding granted and the procedure for receiving the grant depending on the request.
    Applicants are expected to compile a report at the end of the year/program.

    Decisions will take into account:
    • The quality of prior academic work
    • Achievements and contributions to the college and the greater community
    • The nature of the proposed activity and its value for the applicant’s academic, professional, and personal advancement
    • If applicable, proof of additional funding sources
