3:45 pm – 5:15 pm CET/GMT+1
Disability Intimacy is a book by Alice Wong, who was a renowned disability activist. This book is about all possible ways people with disabilities imagine and practice intimacy. It is a collection of personal stories, pictures, and poetry. We will read together some of the stories from the book. We will search for those words, expressions, thoughts and emotions that expand our imagination of what intimacy is and how it is practiced by disabled communities.3:45 pm – 5:15 pm CET/GMT+1
There will be 4 slow reading sessions on Mondays from 3:15pm-5:15pm on September 14, 21, 28, and October 12.
At each session, we will slowly read and discuss one offering from the book. Vita will propose some alternative ways of reading as material and bodily practice. There will be an open space for your ideas on how to engage with the reading. Come as you are, no preparation is necessary. Come tired. Come curious. Come to read, to listen, to relax. Pop in and pop out just for one event as it suits you. Plain language copy of the book and print outs are available.
These slow reading sessions are part of the Disability Justice Programme planned by Vita Zelenska, Student Health and Disability Resources Manager, and Lauren Gaillard, Director of Equal Opportunity, Participation and Nondiscrimination.
