Interested in art publishing in all its many forms? Join this workshop with expert Janine Sack from the Berlin-based publishing house EECLECTIC.7:15 pm – 8:45 pm CET/GMT+1
To show the immense range of art publishing (particularly digital), Sack will showcase some specific international publications and artists’ books, and touch upon more experimental publishing formats. After discussing the history and practices of publishing, participants will then explore how to place their own work within this field and find inspiration on how to publish themselves. Together, they will investigate how the designs and concepts of publications inform the way the content is perceived.

Janine Sack works as a publisher, designer, artist, and lecturer in Berlin. In her work, she is interested in how various projects and topics can be presented and conceptualized using the possibilities offered by different media. As a designer, she creates a wide range of publications – e-books, print books and websites – as well as magazines and newspapers (including launching the redesign and ongoing design of the “taz” and the weekly newspaper “der Freitag”). Since 2018, she has run the publishing project EECLECTIC, which focuses on digital publications in the field of visual culture. The project publishes e-books in the overlapping fields of art and culture, and examines topics such as the city, politics, society, and feminisms. Artistic narratives and practices of artistic research are at the heart of these publications. She teaches visual communication with a focus on digital publishing at institutions including the Media University Berlin, Brand University in Zhuhai, and the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin. Since 2015, she has been part of the publishing network Drucken Heften Laden, which, in addition to joint trade fair participations and a series of events, publishes the quarterly newsletter *Paper News*. She was a founding member of the women artists’ groups frauen•und•technik and -Innen. Since 2018, she has been part of the feminist research network #PurpleNoise.
Presented as part of the BCB Internship Program, open to the BCB community.
