Andreas Martin Widmann publishes new short story "Pfirsich" in anthology

Andreas Martin Widmann has a new short story appearing in GegendEntwürfe 5, an anthology commissioned by the Ministerium für Familie, Frauen, Kultur und Integration Rheinland-Pfalz. Published every few years, the collection maps the terrain of contemporary German literary voices who live in or carry some biographical claim to the region.

“Pfirsich” (Peach), Widmann's contribution, is set in a commuter suburb outside Berlin, the kind of place where the houses are tidy and the lives behind them less so. A watercolor artist is preparing for an interview with the local paper, when a sofa she had thrown out months ago turns up again on the curb outside her house. What follows is a reckoning with the distance between the life a person curates and the one they have actually lived. The anthology places Widmann's work alongside that of acclaimed authors including Ingo Schulze and Hanns-Josef Ortheil.
