The multilingual events in this series feature both German and international writers who are primarily based in Berlin. Events include a novel reading by Argentinian-born writer Ariel Magnus, a panel on writing, translating and magazine publishing in multiple languages, and a conversation with Saskya Jain, award-winning Indian novelist, and Geetanjali Shree, recipient of the International Booker Prize 2022 for her novel Tomb of Sand, written in Hindi. A reading by Bard College Berlin students presenting their own creative writing will open the second day of the festival.
“For over two centuries, Berlin has been a vibrant hub for internationally renowned writers,” notes Widmann. “From the outset, linguistic diversity has shaped the city’s literary life. Berlin’s role as a cultural crossroads and historic bridge between East and West has enriched global literary exchange in profound ways.” For Laura Scuriatti, “Berlin’s cosmopolitan spirit and creative dynamism make it an ideal place to reflect on the evolving dimensions of European identity in a global context. Bard College Berlin shares in this tradition, both through its mission and the diverse community it fosters.”
