Civic engagement student feature: Muhammad Faraz Sadiq ‘25 presents workshop as part of Get Engaged Alumni Speaker Series
In 2022, Faraz participated in the Get Engaged Student Action and Youth Leadership Conference at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, hosted by the Open Society University Network. As a Get Engaged alumnus, Faraz has been invited to present a workshop as part of the Get Engaged Alumni Speaker Series on August 14. The workshop, titled “The Art of Effective Feedback,” will focus on learning about the essential techniques to create a positive feedback culture utilizing constructive criticism.
Faraz’s involvement with civic engagement goes beyond just the conference; he also served as one of the Open Society University Network’s 26 Student Global Engagement Fellows for 2023-24. “My favorite aspect of the fellowship," Faraz says, "was to be a part of a community of practice and to meet and learn from people from all over the world who are proactively building a better future.” He also notes the significance of learning from other Fellows and applying their civic engagement insights to his own projects, as well as those of his Bard College Berlin peers. In addition, this past summer Faraz was invited to join the faculty of Central European University’s Summer University as a Course Fellow for the class Civic Engagement: Student as Citizen. He delivered multiple workshops in project development and shared his experiences of running civic engagement projects in Berlin, facilitating students in their project development.
On BCB’s campus, Faraz is involved with the initiatives English Hour and Open Classroom. These civic engagement initiatives address inequality in the access to educational opportunities, one of the major challenges that drives and prolongs social and economical injustice. In partnership with local organizations, students work to create spaces and opportunities to meet, share experiences, and learn from members of the local community. Faraz also served as BCB’s first “Access to Education” fellow.
