Dr. Jeffrey Champlin will launch his new book, Born Again: Romanticism and Fundamentalism, at a publication event and discussion in July

In a book launch event titled "The Politics of Rebirth and the Prospects for Secular Democracy," which will take place at Katholische Akademie in Berlin on July 3, Dr. Jeffrey Champlin will launch his new book Born Again: Romanticism and Fundamentalism alongside former Bard College Berlin faculty member Dr. Michael Weinman, author of The Political Theology of Hannah Arendt.

Champlin and Weinman will be joined in discussion by Courtney Hodrick and Sophie Lauwers to unpack the trope of “rebirth” and consider what makes it so pervasive in our current political and cultural moment. In particular, they will discuss why the focus on “extremism,” “fundamentalism,” or “immoderation” in much of the discourse around the politics of being born again does as much as to obscure as to make clear the connection between the pitfalls of secularism and the anti-democratic character of many liberal defenses of the current international order.
