Amelia Ada: Reading and Discussion

Amelia Ada will read from her new work HARD AND GLAD (Dopamine/Semiotext(e), 2026), set in California, between Oakland and Los Angeles, in the years before and the year after COVID. The work narrates the end of a 10-year marriage. The husband-figure is called Disappointed and the narrator calls themselves H+G. Ultimately the book illustrates the narrator’s coming to terms with a latent desire: to transition their sex and gender. Ada will discuss the ways the work draws from--and refuses--some of the genres it is called: a novel, poem, memoir, and autofiction.

Amelia Ada is the author of Hard and Glad (DOPAMINE/Semiotext(e), 2026). Her writing has appeared widely in journals including ZYZZYVA, Boston Review, Denver Quarterly, Southwest Review, and West Branch. She holds a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California.
