Talk and discussion with Paul Joo You Kim, CFA. Paul is a 25+ year Wall St veteran with extensive buy-side experience at leading hedge funds such as SAC Capital (now Point72) and Omega Advisors as portfolio manager and analyst covering the global technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sector. He was a senior member and TMT sector head of a SAC Capital spin-off fund that achieved ~$1 billion in assets under management. Paul also has deep investment banking/sell-side experience at Bank of America, UBS (formerly PaineWebber), and was a founder/CEO of a boutique equity research firm that was merged into a Swiss-based, multinational financial institution.
Currently, he is a general partner at several early-stage venture capital and hedge funds that partner with venture studios/accelerators and university-affiliated incubators and innovation hubs that invest/donate a substantial portion of general partner profits in social impact initiatives in education, food, technology, economic opportunity, and related verticals.
Paul is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Drexel University’s Food Lab and at CUNY Startups (the university-wide startup program that spans 25 colleges at The City University of New York representing over 250,000 students), and he has deep nonprofit experience as a board member/chair and as Executive Director for various social impact organizations.
He has an B.S. and M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business, and is a CFA Charterholder.
