Guest faculty Noam Brusilovsky wins Prix Italia for original radio play "Exzess – Eine Techno Oper" (Excess - A Techno Opera)
The Prix Italia—considered one of the oldest and most important international awards for radio, television, and digital media—was granted on October 4 in Turin. The jury described Brusilovsky’s radio play as “an innovative, brave, and bold programme with incredible sound design.” It tells the story of two characters involved in Berlin’s club scene ending in tragedy using “haunting sound design and dramatic new music,” which the jury states, “makes this 'operamentary' genuine radio art."
This semester, Brusilovsky is teaching the practicing arts course ‘Archives of Sound,’ in which students create their own artistic projects based on archival material of the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle. His radio plays have previously won the German Radio Drama Award twice and were nominated for the Prix Europa.
