Inside Die Discounter: Screening and Q&A with Marie Bloching
The series is a mockumentary-style comedy about a discount supermarket, and Bloching’s character, Lia, is one of its dry-witted and often unimpressed employees.
Discussing Die Discounter, Bloching explained how the series balances scripted storytelling with improvisation. Unlike traditional screenplays, the scripts for Die Discounter resemble a narrative outline without set dialogue. This gives the actors more creative freedom, enabling them to respond naturally to each other in ways that enhance the show's humor. Compared to film work, where she has more time to develop scenes, Die Discounter moves quickly and requires the actors to think on their feet.
Following the screening, Bloching spoke about her path to acting, from her early years in Munich to moving to Berlin to pursue the craft professionally. She also shared her excitement about Schwesterherz, her new film which recently premiered at the Berlinale, which depicts the complexities of a sibling relationship.
Throughout the conversation, Bloching emphasized her passion for taking on projects that spark her creativity and bring her joy. The event provided an engaging look into both her career and the unique creative process behind one of Germany’s most popular comedy series.
