Prof. Dr. Kai Koddenbrock presents guest lecture at the Swedish Research Council’s Graduate School in Migration and Integration
Drawing from two of his publications, “Earnest struggles: structural transformation, government finance and the recurrence of debt crisis in Senegal” (2024) and “Beyond financialisation: the longue durée of finance and production in the Global South” (2022), among other readings, Koddenbrock first lectured on international financial subordination, government finance, and Modern Monetary Theory. Students learned about inequalities and dependencies and “explore[d] what delinking, building regional complementarities, and Modern Monetary Theory may contribute to more equal relations between societies.”
In the proceeding keynote seminar, Koddenbrock lectured on “Walking a fine line: Germany and the question of imperialism,” based on a publication currently under review. In this seminar he investigated the meaning of imperialism with a view to Germany, focusing on “military violence, domestic state-capital relations, and the extraction of value from the Global South.”
