Professor Gale Raj presented her research on 'The Malaysian semiconductor industry: MNC dependency shaping industrial policy during geopolitical/economic crises' at the annual conference of The Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics in July 2025 in Montreal, Canada.

This presentation was on research findings from a three year research projected funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) on the reconfiguration of the semiconductor industry global production network. Analysis and findings were based on fieldwork research conducted in Malaysia in 2023 and 2024. It highlights the role of Malaysia as a significant production location to the global semiconductor industry and how geo-economic trade tensions between the US and China and global supply chain worries since Covid-19 disruptions have increased foreign investments and industrial policy in an unequal dependency relationship.
