The Art of Making Videos: Charity Ellis teaches at Bard College Berlin this semester for the first time

If you’ve ever used audiovisual equipment for an arts class at Bard College Berlin during the past two years, you may know Charity Ellis. Ellis began working in the A/V room at BCB in 2022 following completion of an arts residency in Berlin. Prior to that, she worked extensively in the fields of film and video, both professionally and artistically.

This semester, Ellis is teaching a foundation video course at BCB for the first time: The Art of Making Videos. This beginners’ introduction course teaches the technical foundations of video making by introducing students to different kinds of cameras, settings, natural and studio lighting, sound design, and editing in Adobe Premiere. The goal of the course is to provide both the technical knowledge and creative understanding needed for making videos.

“Film and video are potent and widely accessible mediums of communication,” Ellis notes, “offering vast potential for both creative expression and the ability to inspire action.” She explains that students will be encouraged to develop and refine their own creative voices, as well as deepen their understanding of video as a dynamic and multifaceted language. She concludes, “I look forward to guiding students on this collaborative and enriching journey.”
