Ulrike Wagner joins Harvard Center for the Study of World Religions as a residential fellow

Dr. Ulrike Wagner, Director of the German Studies Program at Bard College Berlin, joins the Center for the Study of World Religions (CSWR) at Harvard University's Divinity School as a residential fellow this fall. The theme of the CSWR's programming for the 2026-27 academic year is "Transcendentalism: A Year of Exploration."

In an interdisciplinary community of scholars, writers, artists, and activists, she will approach Transcendentalism not as a closed American period but as a living religious, philosophical, and political tradition that took shape in a network of thinkers and speaks directly to our present. Her new project focuses on the women writers of this movement in their transatlantic network: Margaret Fuller, Elizabeth Palmer Peabody, Bettine von Arnim, Rahel Varnhagen, and their circles.
