The Office of Civic Engagement at Bard College Berlin supports student involvement with public life outside the classroom to promote commitment to active citizenship and contribute to an engaged university. Through student-led projects and volunteer work the Bard College Berlin campus can share talents and resources, support positive social change, and make a difference in the civic life of local communities while being part of an intercultural exchange with Berlin. The Civic Engagement Office strives to center community engagement within the university while creating pathways with local and global communities to act collaboratively and respond to current issues.

How We Engage

  • Areas of Engagement
At Bard College Berlin students create Civic Engagement projects on pressing issues in the areas of Human Rights, Sustainability, Education and Language, Arts and Society, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Access to Education
Bard College Berlin engages in international and local partnerships to improve quality and access to higher education worldwide.
  • Global Engagement
Bard College Berlin students have access to opportunities and resources from a global network of collaborators. Through the Open Society University Network they join international conferences and trainings, sharing expertise and experiences, or run joint cross-campus projects.
Faraz Quote

"Most of the students that I have met here are really civically minded and there is something that they are all passionate about. If you have something that you are bothered by, … where you think you can help make an impact, you can even start with a small step and do something just for your own neighborhood."

Faraz, EPST student and Global Engagement Fellow at BCB
