Crafting Cures: Visions of the Body in Early Modern Medicine
Thursday, April 10, 2025
Online (Zoom)
7:30 pm – 9:00 pm CET/GMT+1
How does the body stay healthy and heal? This lecture explores evolving premodern visions of the body, moving between medical traditions in the East and West. We will trace the shift from reverence for ancient texts to the rise of experimentation in early modern medicine. We will consider how mechanical models of the body and reflections on the mind-body relationship reshaped medical theory and practice. We will also touch on the roles of physicians and midwives in the expanding efforts to help women better understand their own bodies—a theme that still echoes in medical discourse today.7:30 pm – 9:00 pm CET/GMT+1
