House on the Border: One Family, One Place, 100 Years of Berlin History (A Conversation with Bard College Berlin Board Member Christine Wallich)
Monday, October 6, 2025
JJK Hall Cafe (W15)
12:30 pm – 1:45 pm CET/GMT+1
Join us for a conversation with Bard College Berlin Board Member Christine Wallich, who will reflect on her family’s history through the Villa Schöningen in Potsdam. This house, situated at the Glienicke Bridge — later known as the “Bridge of Spies” — witnessed the great upheavals of modern German history, including the rise of banking dynasties, the persecutions of the Nazi era, exile and survival, the Cold War division, and the challenges of reunification. Interwoven with this broader historical narrative is a story of loss, resilience, and belonging across generations. 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm CET/GMT+1
Part of Dr. Ulrike Wagner's German Conversation course, open to all students. The talk will be in English.
