Dr. Cassandra Ellerbe publishes chapter in pedagogical practice book Ökosoziale Transformation in der sozialen und pädagogoschen Praxis (Eco-social transformation in social and educational practice)
Ellerbe’s chapter, “The Circle of Oyá/Iansã: Transformation mit der Hilfe unserer Ahnen" (“Transformation with the help of our ancestors”), looks at the decolonization of spirituality, and focuses on the transformative power of ancestral veneration for BIPoC communities in Germany.
To launch the book, the authors participated in the Beziehungen Dekolonisieren (Decolonizing Relationships) conference at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. The online two-day conference in German offered a space for the discussion of the decolonization of relationships between humans and nature, as well as somatic and climate justice workshops.
In November, Ellerbe delivered the keynote speech at the Erasmus+ & DAAD conference titled "Moving Closer to Inclusive Internationalisation in Higher Education.” The conference brought together 100 participants for networking, reflection, and exchange of best practices in inclusion and diversity and in higher education within the European context.
She will also deliver a TED Talk-like speech on 17 November 2023 in Ghent, Belgium at the yearly festival “Nacht van de Vrijdenker” (Night of the Freethinkers). The topic of her talk is titled “Conjuring Spirit and Wellbeing as Forms of Black Feminist Resistance in Coping with the Global Polycrisis.”
Ellerbe's contribution to the book, along with her conference speeches, exemplify her commitment to transformative justice in higher education, paving the way for a more equitable and sustainable future.
