13 new guest instructors join the Bard College Berlin faculty for fall 2025

Each semester, in addition to Bard College Berlin’s full-time faculty members, a variety of experienced visiting instructors from diverse backgrounds join Bard College Berlin’s faculty to teach courses shaped by their unique areas of expertise.

This semester, visiting faculty are teaching courses ranging from Latin American literature, Chinese philosophy, South Asian fiction, the Black female figure in Western art, documentary theater, artificial intelligence, investigative journalism, and more.

Bard College Berlin welcomes these 13 new guest faculty members:
  • Dr. Erica Benner (D.Phil in Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford), co-teaching Origins of Political Economy 
  • Dr. Alfred Freeborn (PhD in History, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), co-teaching Thinking Machines: Critical Approaches to Artificial Intelligence with Dr. Thomas Turnbull
  • Franziska Gilmozzi, teaching German Beginner A1
  • Dr. Luis Miguel Isava (PhD in Comparative Literature, Emory University), teaching Why Borges? Fiction and Writing as Cultural Reflection
  • Saskya Jain (MFA in Creative Writing, Boston University), teaching Tutors of History: Narrating South Asia in Fiction
  • Channing Joseph (MS in Journalism, Columbia University), teaching Longform Journalism: Crafting Investigative and Narrative Stories
  • Franziska Laue, teaching German Beginner A2 
  • Ruizhi Ma (MA in History of Science, Tsinghua University), teaching Introduction to Chinese Philosophy
  • Enuma Okoro (Masters in Divinity, Duke University), teaching The Black female figure in Western Art from the 17th century to Present: From Object to Subject
  • Dr. Anthony Quickel (PhD in Islamic Studies, University of Marburg), teaching Making Value and Using Resources
  • Max Street (MA in Germanic Languages and Literatures, Harvard University), teaching German Beginner A2 
  • Dr. Thomas Turnbull (PhD in Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford), teaching Thinking Machines: Critical Approaches to Artificial Intelligence with Dr. Alfred Freeborn
  • Daniel Wetzel (Diploma in Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft, Institute for Applied Theatre Studies, JLU Gießen), teaching From Street to Stage: Experimenting with Rimini Protokoll's Approach to Documentary Theater
