Agata Lisiak presents on transnational feminism at the University of Cologne

Prof. Dr. Agata Lisiak recently took part in a conference titled "Marxism in Academic Teaching – Between Marginalization and Global Perspectives" at the University of Cologne on January 15-16, 2026. Organized by Professors Kai Koddenbrock (University of Bielefeld) and Felix Wemheuer (University of Cologne), the event brought together academics from different disciplines and institutional settings to share and critically reflect on their teaching approaches, methods, and lesson plans.

Participants discussed the challenges and opportunities of applying Marxist theories in teaching in the addressed of today’s multiple crises. In her presentation, "Transnational Feminism and Fractured Solidarities," Lisiak spoke about the course she has been teaching at Bard College Berlin since 2019, in which students examine the demands of socialist women’s rights activists, queer feminist formations in the Global South, theories and practices of reproductive justice, feminist responses to occupation, war, and land grabbing, decolonial feminist interventions, and the connections between gender justice and environmental justice.
