Bard College Berlin hosts 2024 Get Engaged Conference in June

2023 Get Engaged Conference in Budapest
Bard College Berlin is hosting the Get Engaged Conference from June 24 to July 1, an annual leadership and civic engagement-oriented conference organized by the Open Society University Network (OSUN). In collaboration with the Hertie School, this year’s conference will bring 53 students from 23 institutions across 23 different countries to Berlin to develop community leadership skills and collaborate on solutions to local and global challenges. The conference covers all expenses for participants and aims to be an inspirational and practical space for young adults to grow into global leadership.

The Get Engaged Conference is focused on “growing a network of young social entrepreneurs and change agents who are actively using liberal arts as a tool to develop solutions to challenges in their communities” according to OSUN. The conference will consist of workshops, lectures, excursions, discussion, and reflection taking place on the campuses of Bard College Berlin and the Hertie School as well as other venues throughout Berlin.

Student participants are looking forward to engaging with fellow peers from different cultures and countries, developing leadership skills, addressing civic engagement issues throughout the world, and sharing their projects with a global audience. Students will showcase their social action projects on Friday, June 28 in the Student Symposium, which is open to the public.

Bard College Berlin has been an active participant in Get Engaged since sending its first student delegation to the 2018 conference in Turkey. This year, a delegation of Bard College Berlin students are again among the student leaders contributing to civic engagement dialogue and projects.

“Hosting the Get Engaged student conference in Berlin comes at a special time this year, as our network of universities is in a transition phase,” says Faiza zu Lynar, BCB’s Civic Engagement Manager. “This is a key moment for bringing students and coordinators from across the globe who do community engagement work at their institutions together in person. We can deepen our relationships, and make plans for cross-campus collaboration, based on our shared values and commitment to positive social change.”

Bard College Berlin is proud to co-host this year’s conference and welcome the student and staff delegations to the city of Berlin. Learn more about the Get Engaged Conference here, and view the event details for the public Student Symposium here.
