Dr. Ajla Škrbić was invited by the President of Kosovo to speak at the International Forum for Women, Peace and Security
The WPS Forum brings together leaders, scholars, activists, civil society representatives, influencers, young people, and other stakeholders to deliberate on pressing global issues concerning the WPS Agenda. This year, the Forum centered its discussions on fostering collaborative approaches to tackle sexual violence in conflict and devising strategies and policies to enhance the safety of women and girls in the face of escalating climate-related security risks.
Škrbić’s panel “assembled experts, practitioners, and stakeholders on conflict-related sexual violence to exchange insights, best practices, lessons learned, and emerging frameworks of action within the evolving landscape of security and peace in Europe and beyond,” Škrbić explains. The participants delved into the pivotal role played by international justice mechanisms in combatting wartime sexual violence, underscoring the significance of prosecuting perpetrators and ensuring justice for survivors. She and the other panelists also explored the challenges and opportunities inherent in seeking justice and providing support to survivors, emphasizing the importance of redress and accountability.
Škrbić is currently teaching the course Sexual Violence, Gender and War at Bard College Berlin, which counts toward the Certificate in Human Rights.
