Dr. Cary Aileen García Yero is Scholar Associate of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. She completed her PhD in History at Harvard University in 2020. Her dissertation received Honorary Mention by the Latin American Studies Association, Cuba Section, in 2022. During her doctoral studies, she was Managing Editor of the journal Cuban Studies, published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. García Yero’s work has been supported by institutions such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Her research interests include Afro-Latin American art, race relations in the Americas, Cuban history, Cold War history, and cultural theory. She has been part of the Leibniz University Hannover’s project Arts of the Black Atlantic and the ALARI Traveling Research Seminar on Afro-Latin American Art. Her writings include the forthcoming book My Own Past: Afrodescendant Contributions to Cuban Art (Cambridge University Press, fall 2025), jointly authored with Dr. Alejandro de la Fuente, and several peer-reviewed articles in journals such as the Latin American Research Review, Studies in Latin American Popular Culture, New West Indian Guide, and others.PhD in History
