John von Bergen (b. 1971, Connecticut, USA) earned his BFA Degree with Honors from School of Visual Arts in New York. Since moving to Berlin in 2003, his work has been exhibited in various international museums, galleries, and institutions, including Halle 14 (Leipzig), Wilhelm-Hack Museum (Ludwigshafen), Galeria Pilar (São Paulo), Pera Museum (Istanbul) and Smack Mellon (New York). In 2009 von Bergen received the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and in January 2014 opened his solo exhibition “Prey Voidant” at Alexander Levy (Berlin). This exhibition coincided with the release of  von Bergen’s first monograph titled "CORE" (Kerber Verlag / D.A.P.). 

In Spring 2019 von Bergen was invited as guest faculty to Bard College New York offering two studio arts courses cross-listed with the Environmental and Urban Studies program as well as Experimental Humanities. Upcoming projects include a group exhibition at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart opening in May 2020, and a permanent installation commissioned by Bundesamt für Bauwesen und Raumordnung for a new extension of The Bundestag in Berlin (expected to be completed: 2021).
