Sasha Shapiro grew up in Los Angeles and received her PhD from the University of Virginia as a Jefferson Fellow. Now based in Berlin, she teaches philosophy, literature, and critical theory at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, "Language and Thinking" at Bard College Berlin, and works freelance as an academic and fiction editor. Her research interests center on the interdisciplinary crossover of medical ethics, literature, and anthropology, with particular focus on end-of-life care and illness narratives. Her doctoral research explored perspectives of death and dying in Russian literature, and she is currently completing her first book, Perspectives on End of Life: An Interdisciplinary Perspective, forthcoming from Springer Nature.PhD in Literature
