YANG Qiao 楊巧 is a postdoctoral fellow at Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. She works on experts and institutions of knowledge in China and the Islamic world, with a special focus on the Mongol Empire (13th–14th centuries). Her current book project, Heavenly Knowledge, World Empire, examines how Chinese and West Asian astronomers encountered the Mongol world rulers and each other in the 13th-14th centuries. Qiao is leading the working group “Ability and Authority” at MPIWG, where she develops a project on diviners in Yuan (1271–1368) China. Qiao’s research interests include history of astronomy/astrology, history of divination, social and cultural history of the Mongol Empire, and cross-cultural contact between premodern China and the Islamic world.Hebrew University of Jerusalem
