with Boris Vormann
How is it possible that the American state, often characterized as weak and decentralized, has built the largest circulation systems in human history? Putting under scrutiny widespread myths of American statelessness, this talk fleshes out how the United States’s ascent to global economic hegemony rested, fundamentally, on the consolidation of the state apparatus and its direct and indirect investments in logistical infrastructure. This lecture is open to faculty and staff. It is presented by Prof. Dr. Boris Vormann, director of the Politics Concentration at BCB, as part of the Faculty Colloquium series, organized by Gale Raj-Reichert, Ewa Atanassow, and Nina Tecklenburg.
