Nuclear energy futures: Prof. Dr. Agata Lisiak and Experimental Humanities Collaborative Network (EHCN) colleagues published in the Berliner Gazette
The essay titled “Generating New Urban Imaginaries: Finding Kin in Nuclear Energy Futures,” published in the Berliner Gazette in September 2024, was written by Lisiak, Jen Richter of Arizona State University, and Siarhei Liubimau of European Humanities University. They address the questions of who exactly shares responsibility for the geographies shaped by past crimes and present injustices and how an application of a “politics of place beyond place” might shift dominant discourses on energy.
The essay draws on the work of the Generator Project, completed by Lisiak, Richter, Liubimau, and their respective students last year. Funded by the EHCN, the project was envisioned as a response to the ongoing challenges regarding energy generation and distribution, including the creation of sustainable, resilient, and equitable systems. Three BCB students—Aleksandra Vartsaba, Gabi Cangussu dos Santos, and Leonie Hüppe—participated in the Generator Project’s joint learning experiences and field school in Lithuania. Lisiak, Richter, and Liubimau published a free-to-download experiential course guide to share their project experiences with interested educators, researchers, and students.
