LG(BCB)TQ+ opens queer library and accompanying digital archive

Bard College Berlin has welcomed an exciting new addition to our campus: the Queer Library. The Queer Library is run by LGBCBTQ+, a student-run organization focused on queer advocacy, and its launch event was supported by the Civic Engagement office. In the words of LGBCBTQ+, the Queer Library has been “established in order to bring queer literature, history, and awareness to our community. By starting this library, we hope to elevate queer perspectives, resources and politics on campus, which are too often missing in our personal and academic lives.” 

At the launch event, members of the BCB community shared their own work, and enjoyed refreshments. Guest speaker, Pauline Agustoni, the creator of an informal feminist library located at Jonasstrasse 44, was invited to talk at the opening and share their experience with creating a community library. Works in the library include writing by Leslie Fienberg, Audre Lorde, James Baldwin, Gavin McCrea, and Rita Mae Brown, among others. In addition to the physical library, LGBCBTQ+ has also established a digital archive of literature, essays, political writing, and art.
