Seraphine Maerz was a postdoctoral fellow at Bard College Berlin during the academic year 2018-19, teaching courses on statistics, advanced quantitative methods and research design. She received her PhD in Political Science from the Central European University, Budapest, in December 2017. Seraphine's research concentrates on the survival strategies of authoritarian regimes in Central Asia and beyond. She is particularly interested in how autocratic leaders use the Internet to justify and stabilize their rule. She is trained in qualitative and quantitative methods and works with set-theoretic approaches, quantitative text analysis, and other computational methods.
