Bard College Berlin Library to feature Experimental Humanities section
The inaugural month of the Experimental Humanities bookshelf will include two issues of Fisherwomxn, a literary journal which “deconstructs narratives that push and pull us from the places we call home”; My Women by Yuliia Iliukha, a gripping Ukrainian short story collection capturing the impacts of the full-scale Russian invasion; and These Bones Will Rise Again by Panashe Chigumadzi, a memoir which reflects “the telling of history and manipulation of time” in Zimbabwe after the 2017 coup. Also included are slim but powerful works from Hajar Press, such as Heba Hayek’s Sambac Beneath Unlikely Skies, Lola Olufemi’s Experiments in Imagining Otherwise, and Curious Affinities by Sophie Chauhan, among others.
The Experimental Humanities bookshelf will function like a reserve shelf, meaning members of the Bard College Berlin community can borrow the books for up to two hours.
EHCN is committed to “rethinking the humanities in the light of changing technologies, our increasingly connected planet, the ongoing ecological crisis, and the need to create more inclusive institutions.” Over the past four years, EHCN funding has enabled a wide range of activities and projects on campus including skills-based workshops, community-facing events, guest lectures, film screenings, and exciting student-led initiatives. It has also purchased new equipment for the college and supported several creative component theses, including Clarissa Shane’s oral history project in Paredones, Michoacán, Mexico.
