13 new guest faculty join Bard College Berlin for spring 2026

Each semester, a variety of experienced visiting instructors from diverse backgrounds join Bard College Berlin’s faculty to teach courses shaped by their unique areas of expertise. This semester, visiting faculty are teaching courses ranging from Afro-Latin art and East African literature, to colonial legacies and postcolonial transition, along with practicing arts courses on expanding the field of sculpture and exploring the impact of technology on sexuality and gender.

This semester, Bard College Berlin welcomes 13 new guest faculty members:
  • Dr. Cynthia Browne (PhD in Socio-Cultural Anthropology, Harvard University), teaching Permutations of the Public
  • Dr. Boneace Chagara (PhD in African Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), teaching Contemporary Currents in East African Literature
  • Anan Fries (Diploma in Cultural Studies, Universität Hildesheim), teaching Artificial Sex: Technology, Gender, and Sexuality
  • Dr. Azadeh Ganjeh (PhD in Theatre Studies, University of Bern), teaching Visibility, intervention, and collective empowerment: Contemporary approaches to Performance Making
  • Dr. Cary Aileen García Yero (PhD in History, Harvard University), teaching The Art of Afro-Latin America
  • Dr. Sam Hege (PhD in History, Rutgers University-New Brunswick), teaching Water Histories: Society, Conflict, and Power
  • Dr. Ying Sze Pek (PhD in Art & Archaeology, Princeton University), teaching Photography in Germany, 1871 to the Present
  • Dr. Sasha Shapiro (PhD in Literature, University of Virginia), teaching Forms of Love
  • Dr. Romain Tiquet (PhD in African Studies, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin), teaching The Postcolonial Transition in Africa
  • Dr. Nisaar Ulama (Dr. phil. in Media Studies, Bauhaus Universität Weimar), teaching New Materialisms in Philosophy and Art
  • Jorge Vega (MSc. in Biological Sciences, National Autonomous University of Mexico), teaching Latin America: Colonial Legacies, Modernity, and Indigenous Politics
  • Raphaela Vogel (Fine Arts, Hochschule für Bildende Künste–Städelschule), teaching Exploring the Expanded Field of Sculpture
  • Saskia Vogel (Master of Professional Writing, University of Southern California), teaching Living in Translation: Contemporary European Literatures
We warmly welcome these new guest instructors as they contribute to Bard College Berlin’s educational mission of dialogue and exchange across distinctive cultural and social backgrounds, learning through discussion, and dedication to undergraduate teaching.
