Bard College Berlin and Hertie School
Students at Bard College Berlin have the opportunity to complete a 5-year BA-Master's Program, receiving a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Bard College Berlin and Bard College Annandale and a Master's from the Hertie School in either International Affairs or Public Policy.
 
The pathway is best suited to students pursuing a concentration in Politics or Economics in the BA Economics, Politics and Social Thought, or a concentration in Ethics and Politics in the BA Humanities, the Arts and Social Thought. Other concentrations are possible, if specific courses are taken as electives early in the BA program.

Program Outline and Admissions Process

  • Program Outline
    The following gives an outline of the various pathways, and the courses and components to be completed.
    • Students will complete most of their fourth year of BA study at the Hertie School, with Hertie courses being recognized as Bard College Berlin BA requirements.
    • The BA thesis project will be submitted by the end of January of the fourth year.
    • The Bard College Berlin BA research colloquium will be completed at BCB in the fall of fourth year.
    • The credits recognized from the Hertie School make up the usual total for the Bard College Berlin/ Bard College Annandale BA: 256 ECTS
  • Application Process
    • Students will decide at Moderation, at the end of the second year of study, whether they wish to apply for the pathway program.
    • The Hertie School runs tests for its introductory courses in statistics and economics in July of each year. Bard College Berlin second-years will have the opportunity to take these tests in order to have the requirement to take such courses waived for the Master's.
    • Students will apply to Hertie in October of their third year, and receive an admissions decision by December
